Mini-Rex sort of took me by surprise. I met my first Mini-Rex Rabbit at the county fair. The fur was just incredible to touch! Since I would sometime get phone calls from people looking for pet sized rabbits, when I met a Mini-Rex I decided that would be the perfect 2nd breed for me.

Mini-Rex tend to average 4 lbs and have a compact body type that is approximately as wide as it is high when viewed from the rear. The fur is the most noteworthy feature of the breed in that the guard hairs are the same length as the underfur. This gives it a very dense velvety feel. For this reason the Mini-Rex Rabbit is known as the "Velveteen Rabbit."

We've had a great time so far breeding Mini-Rex Rabbits! It's been a great study into color genetics for us with the rainbow of colors we've produced. Before Mini-Rex's I never even knew a Tri-Colored Rabbit existed! Now I see them regularly from three of my does.

I have absolutely fallen in love with the color Lilac. I am partial to Blues anyway and when I first saw a Lilac it really took my breath away.
